Fire up your grill, it’s summertime! Warm weather means more outdoor cooking and backyard gatherings and we have the perfect addition to any meal! Don’t stop at your typical grilled meats and veggies – treat your family and friends to grilled fruits and dessert. Grilling takes the dessert to a whole new level by deepening the flavor and caramelizing the natural sugars, so you are left with a warm, rich dessert. Read below for tips, tricks and recipes from sweet and fruity to ooey and gooey!
Prepare Your Grill
Before you start grilling, make sure to clean and oil your grill so the desserts don’t stick or absorb any leftover unintended flavor. In general, cook desserts over medium heat so they become warm and brown, but not burnt.
Choose Your Ingredients
Start with a base like bread, sponge cake, graham crackers, or slices of fruit! These will absorb juices and char nicely. If you want to grill smaller pieces of fruit, make your base a foil container or cast iron skillet and place the fruit inside. Add treats like chocolate, marshmallows, bananas, and more! You can keep them simple or try unique flavor combinations!
Charred to Perfection
Make sure not to overcook your fruit, cake, or bread. Just grill enough to get some nice, healthy char marks, but not too much that you lose any flavor or juices. Dense fruits like pineapple and watermelon take longer to cook than citrus fruits like lemons and peaches, so if you’re not sure if they’re cooked, slice a piece and check if it’s warm in the middle.
Top It Off
Before digging in, add fun toppings like ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, sprinkles and powdered sugar to your dessert! The more sweetness the better – in our recipe book anyway!
