Build a Better Beefless Burger

If you don’t eat beef—or just want to take an occasional beef break—beefless burgers are a delicious alternative that still satisfies even the most intense burger cravings. From lean meats and seafood to plant-based and Beyond Beef®, there’s bound to be a beefless burger you’ll want a bite of!


Lower in saturated fat than beef, turkey is a tasty and lean burger alternative. But since there’s less fat to keep it together, turkey burgers can quickly become dry and fall apart if you don’t add in extra moisture. For plump, juicy turkey burgers, be sure to add in a liquid like Worcestershire, or even veggies high in water content. Then, be sure to cook your burgers completely through—ground turkey should be cooked to 165°F. For best results, use a meat thermometer to ensure your turkey is thoroughly cooked.

Packed with protein, lamb is another delicious beef burger alternative. Since lamb is more tender than beef, it can burn quickly, so use a lower heat than you would on regular beef burgers. For next-level lamb burgers, pair them with Mediterranean ingredients and flavors like Tzatziki sauce, red onion and Feta and make sure they reach an internal temperature of 160°F.

Lower in calories and higher in Omega-3 fatty acids and nutrients, seafood burgers are a lighter, fresher option for your next burger night. You can utilize leftover salmon or buy premade salmon patties and cook to at least 145°F or you can even use shrimp and a food processor for the ultimate seafood burger. Pair with flavors like lemon and dill to take your meal to the next level.

Chicken burgers are heart-healthy, full of protein and rich in nutrients and minerals, but they can be quick to overcook and dry out. For the best chicken burgers, don’t over handle your patties and press a thumb imprint in the center to ensure they cook evenly. Then, use a meat thermometer to make sure your burgers are cooked to 165°F. And, if you’re cooking on a grill, never smash down your chicken patties since this can drain out the moisture and dry out your burger. To add in more moisture, pair your patties with a homemade burger sauce, crisp veggies and a slice of Cheddar or Swiss cheese for a fully loaded feast.
