Helping Food Insecurity

In the Fight Against Hunger, You Lead the Way!

Thank you neighbors and Team Members, for your generous support of our Feeding America and United Way campaigns to fight hunger in an especially difficult time. In just one year, you raised $8.8 million to help feed your communities and end food insecurity.
Our commitment to fighting hunger in all of our neighborhoods could not be realized without you. Together, we make a real impact.

Feeding America — Families Feeding Families

Between March 26, 2020 and April 11, 2021 (a very difficult time for many of your neighbors), you donated 39+ million meals and $8.8 million dollars by contributing at Giant Eagle, Market District and GetGo registers, through Curbside orders and at the GetGo fuel pump.

This total included a $250,000 match by Giant Eagle. Your generous support greatly benefited the local Food Banks that feed your community:

How to Get Involved

Guests can visit any Giant Eagle, Market District or GetGo location to make a donation to their local Feeding America food bank. Donations can also be made directly by visiting the website for any of our local food bank partners or by visiting Feeding America. United Way Food Insecurity Campaign

Our United Way campaign launched on April 29, 2021 at the start of the pandemic to continue the fight against hunger in our local communities, building off the momentum of our Feeding America campaign. The United Way campaign ran through June 2, 2021.

As partners in the fight against hunger, you generously donated at checkouts in Giant Eagle and Market District, chain-wide, as well as via Curbside pickup and deliveries.

The funds raised were then donated to local United Way chapters, who dispersed the money as they saw fit to a variety of food insecurity agencies in their network, including food banks, meal providers, pantries and educational resources to raise awareness and build resources to fight hunger.

Our partnership with the United Way has been a great resource for continuing to give back to our communities in need.

When the Tionesta community lost their last local grocery store, Giant Eagle partnered with the local Lyons Club to create a unique program that would prevent the area from becoming a food desert. Bi-weekly grocery deliveries from Giant Eagle’s nearest supermarket give all residents access to fresh, nutritious food and household essentials without having to travel 40 minutes out of town to the nearest store.

Thank you for joining us in the fight to feed families and end hunger in our communities.
