CLEVELAND – Giant Eagle announced today the official launch of online EBT payment acceptance for Ohio Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients, providing increased access to nutritious food for tens of thousands of eligible Ohio households.
The COVID-19 pandemic shined a light on the critical role that online grocery ordering and delivery can play in combating food access challenges. Even before the pandemic, transportation challenges made it difficult for many facing hunger to make needed trips to their local grocery store. After months of collaboration with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) and the United States Department of Agriculture, Giant Eagle has met all requirements to permit online EBT acceptance.
“At Giant Eagle, we take seriously our responsibility to help our neighbors thrive by providing safe access to healthy foods,” said Dan Donovan, Giant Eagle spokesperson. “We are extremely appreciative of our partnerships with ODJFS and U.S.D.A., enabling us to evolve how we serve Ohio.”
Giant Eagle is working with key partners such as Greater Cleveland Food Bank to create awareness for online EBT acceptance throughout our communities.
“At the Food Bank we talk to people every day who are eligible for SNAP (food stamps) and we know the difference that the program can make in people’s lives. SNAP is an incredibly important program that helps to ensure that all of our neighbors can afford healthy, nutritious food,” said Tiffany Scruggs, Vice President of Client Services at the Food Bank. “By Giant Eagle accepting SNAP payments online, they not only have made shopping more convenient and easy, but have also made it more accessible for thousands of our neighbors who might otherwise struggle to afford the fresh, nutritious foods they need to lead healthy, active lives.”
Ohio Giant Eagle customers can shop online by visiting GiantEagle.com or by downloading the Giant Eagle mobile app. Those using an EBT payment card can input their card information upon checking out online. Payment for any items in a customer’s order that do not qualify for SNAP can be processed with a traditional debit card or credit card.About Giant Eagle
